Het Residentie Orkest Den Haag, één van de meest innovatieve orkesten in Nederland, bewijst meer dan ooit dat symfonische muziek ook in de 21e eeuw voor een groot en breed publiek van betekenis is. Het orkest is gevestigd in Amare, het nieuwe onderwijs- en cultuurcomplex, in het hart van Den Haag. Naast de symfonische canon voert het orkest ook nieuw werk en cross-over programma’s uit. Het orkest is veelvuldig te horen op de grote podia in Nederland en diverse podia in het buitenland. In de rijke geschiedenis van het orkest waren dirigenten als Hans Vonk, Evgenji Svetlanov, Jaap van Zweden, Neeme Järvi, Nicholas Collon en Anja Bihlmaier als chef-dirigent verbonden aan het internationaal opererende ensemble.

Sinds zomer 2025 is Jun Märkl chef-dirigent. Richard Egarr is als vaste gastdirigent aan het orkest verbonden en Chloe Rooke is tot de zomer van 2027 als emerging artist in residence aan het Residentie Orkest verbonden.

Een van de speerpunten in de ambities van het Residentie Orkest is het educatieve beleid. Jaarlijks participeren meer dan 30.000 scholieren in educatieve projecten waarmee het Residentie Orkest dé aanjager van muziekeducatie is in Den Haag. Het orkest heeft daartoe een educatie- en maatschappelijk programma ontwikkeld voor alle leeftijden, waarmee het Residentie Orkest bijdraagt aan de sociale cohesie in Den Haag.

Het orkest is steevast betrokken bij belangrijke gebeurtenissen zoals de jaarlijkse Troonrede. Ook viert het orkest samen met de bewoners van (groot) Den Haag feestdagen zoals Kerst, Nieuwjaar, Koningsdag, Prinsjesdag en Divali. Belangrijk zijn de samenwerkingen met Haagse en nationale partners als o.a.het Nationaal Theater, Amare, Nederlands Danstheater, Koninklijk Conservatorium, Paard, De Nationale Opera, Nederlandse Opera Academie en de omroepseries van AvroTros en NTR.

Het orkest werkt hiernaast met talloze partners in de stad samen in het kader van maatschappelijke activiteiten met en voor de community.

De functie

Als tutti-speler in de 1e vioolgroep ben je één van de noeste musici die bijdraagt aan de rijke en heldere orkestklank. Wekelijks wordt een productie voorbereid en uitgevoerd. Je plek binnen de groep rouleert per productie. Daarnaast ben je inzetbaar voor (educatieve en maatschappelijke) activiteiten en podiumpresentaties in kleinere bezetting.

Functie eisen

Het spreekt voor zich dat je je onderscheidt als violist. Wij vinden het essentieel dat elke collega een ambassadeur voor ons orkest is en naast de collectieve podiumactiviteiten meewerkt aan educatieve en maatschappelijke activiteiten en producties in ensembleverband. Je kenmerkt je als een positief geëngageerde teamspeler die de juiste balans weet te vinden tussen eigenheid en het collectief.

Het proefspel voor deze functie vindt plaats op dinsdag 13 oktober (voorronde) en woensdag 14 oktober (overige rondes) 2026. Verplichte werken:

• Mozart: Uit vioolconcert nr. 4 (KV 218) of nr. 5 (KV 219): 1e deel zonder cadens;

• Keuze uit een romantisch vioolconcert (1e deel zonder cadens): Beethoven, Brahms, Tsjaikovski, Dvorak of Mendelssohn of Sibelius (1e deel met cadens);

• Nader te bepalen orkestpartijen.

De selectiecommissie behoudt zich het recht voor uit de schriftelijke sollicitaties een voorselectie te maken. Een sollicitatiegesprek maakt deel uit van de selectieprocedure. The Residentie Orkest The Hague, one of the most innovative orchestras in the Netherlands, is proving more than ever before the importance of symphonic music for a large and diverse audience, in our current time. The orchestra is based in Amare, the new educational and cultural complex in the heart of The Hague. In addition to the symphonic canon, the orchestra also regularly performs new work and cross-over programmes. The orchestra can be heard in the major concert halls in the Netherlands and at a range of foreign venues. During its rich history, the orchestra has been led by chief conductors such as Hans Vonk, Yevgeny Svetlanov, Jaap van Zweden, Neeme Järvi, Nicholas Collon and Anja Bihlmaier.

The Residentie Orkest maintains a prominent presence in the city, next to the extensive concert series in Amare the orchestra is playing open air concerts and provides educational projects at innumerable schools. The orchestra has an established involvement in important events as the annual Troonrede (King's Speech). The orchestra also celebrates major public holidays alongside the population of The Hague and surrounding area, with concerts at Christmas, New Year, King's Day, Prince's Day and Diwali. Collaborations with local and national partners such as the Dutch National Theatre, pop venue Paard, Dutch National Opera, the Dutch National Opera Academy and the AvroTros and NTR broadcasting series are just as important.

The orchestra works alongside numerous partners in the city on social activities with and for the community.

The ambitions of Residentie Orkest are epitomised by its educational policy. Every year, more than 30,000 school children are involved in the educational projects, placing the Residentie Orkest at the forefront of musical education in The Hague. In addition, the orchestra has developed an extensive community programme, providing a major contribution to social cohesion in its home city.

The position

As a tutti player in the 1st violin section, you are one of the diligent musicians, making a contribution to the rich, clear orchestral sonority. A new programme is prepared and performed each week. Your place within the section will change for each programme. You will also be adaptable for educational and social activities and stage performances in smaller settings.

Requirements for the position

It goes without saying that you will be a distinguished violinist. We consider it essential that each of our players is an ambassador for our orchestra, and that they collaborate in educational activities and ensemble productions in addition to our fully staged performances. You must be a positive team player who can strike the right balance between individuality and sectional playing.

Auditions for this position will be held on Tuesday 13 October (preliminary round) and on Wednesday 14 October (other rounds) 2026. Compulsory works:

• Mozart: from Violin Concerto no. 3 (K 216), no. 4 (K 218) or no. 5 (K 219): 1st movement without cadenza;

• choice of romantic concerto (1st movement without cadenza): Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikowsky, Dvorak or Mendelssohn or Sibelius (1st movement with cadenza);

• orchestral parts yet to be determined.
